How to Price Coaching Without Selling Your Soul

How to Price Coaching Without Selling Your Soul

I wrote before about why I don’t do coaching calls. But I know many of you will do them — or already do. So let me share how to price coaching honestly, without the guru-industry exploitation.

The short answer: price coaching from the value of the outcome, not your fear — too cheap signals low value and attracts the hardest clients; too high without proof breaks trust. Anchor on results you can actually deliver, publish the price, and raise it as your proof grows.

Because the coaching space in Bangladesh has a pricing problem. On one end: people charging ৳500/hour, burning out, resenting every session. On the other: “gurus” charging ৳50,000 for repackaged YouTube content.

There’s a middle path. Here’s how to find it.

The Two Ditches

Coaching pricing falls into two ditches:

Ditch 1: Too cheap. You charge ৳500-1,000 per hour because you’re “just starting” or you feel guilty charging more. Result: you attract price-shoppers who don’t value your time, you overbook to make meaningful money, you burn out, and you start hating the work.

Cheap pricing doesn’t just hurt you — it hurts clients. When something costs almost nothing, people don’t take it seriously. They skip sessions. They don’t do the homework. Your cheap price actively reduces their results.

Ditch 2: Too expensive (without justification). You charge ৳20,000/hour because some guru told you to “charge your worth.” But you can’t articulate what transformation justifies that price. Result: you feel like a fraud, clients feel scammed, and your reputation takes a hit when word spreads.

Expensive pricing without proportional value is extraction, not service.

The Honest Pricing Framework

Here’s how to price coaching with integrity:

Step 1: Calculate Your Floor

Your floor is the minimum hourly rate that makes coaching worth your time. Calculate it honestly:

  • What do you earn per hour at your job? (Monthly salary ÷ 160 hours)
  • Add 50% (coaching requires prep, follow-up, and emotional energy beyond the hour itself)
  • That’s your floor. Never go below it.

Example: if you earn ৳50,000/month, that’s ~৳312/hour. Your coaching floor is ~৳470/hour. Round to ৳500.

This isn’t greedy — it’s sustainable. Below this, you’re subsidizing clients with your wellbeing.

Step 2: Define the Transformation

Price isn’t about your time. It’s about the client’s outcome.

“What will be different in this person’s life after working with me?”

  • Vague: “I’ll help you with freelancing” → hard to price above ৳1,000/hour
  • Specific: “In 4 sessions, you’ll have a Fiverr profile, 3 gigs, and your first client outreach system” → easily worth ৳3,000-5,000/hour

The more specific and valuable the transformation, the higher you can price with a clear conscience. You’re not charging for hours — you’re charging for outcomes.

Step 3: Price the Package, Not the Hour

Hourly pricing creates the wrong incentives. Clients watch the clock. You feel pressured to fill time. Nobody’s happy.

Instead, price packages:

  • “4-session starter pack: ৳8,000” (not “৳2,000/hour”)
  • “8-week transformation program: ৳15,000”

Packages shift the conversation from cost-per-hour to value-per-outcome. They also commit the client — someone who paid for 4 sessions shows up for 4 sessions.

Step 4: The Integrity Test

Before finalizing your price, ask three questions:

  1. Would I pay this? If you wouldn’t pay your own price for the transformation you’re offering, it’s too high.
  2. Can I deliver 10x value? If someone pays ৳8,000, can you honestly create ৳80,000 worth of value in their life? If yes, the price is fair.
  3. Am I embarrassed to say it? If stating your price makes you cringe, it’s either too high (you know it’s unjustified) or too low (you know you’re undervaluing yourself). Calibrate until you can say it with a straight face.
  4. Pricing Tiers That Work in Bangladesh

Based on the local market, here are honest pricing ranges:

Beginner coach (0-20 clients served): ৳1,000-2,500 per session

You’re building proof. Price accessibly but not desperately. Focus on getting results and testimonials.

Intermediate (20-100 clients, clear methodology): ৳2,500-5,000 per session

You have a system. You know what works. Your price reflects proven outcomes.

Advanced (100+ clients, specialized niche): ৳5,000-15,000 per session

You’re the go-to person for a specific transformation. Scarcity justifies premium pricing.

Above ৳15,000/session: You’d better be delivering life-changing results with proof. At this level, you’re competing with international coaches. Make sure your outcomes justify it.

What "Selling Your Soul" Actually Looks Like

Let me name the practices to avoid:

Fake scarcity. “Only 2 spots left!” when there are 20. This is lying. Don’t.

Income claims you can’t verify. “My clients make ৳1 lakh/month!” Show real data or don’t claim it.

Upsell traps. A ৳2,000 session that’s actually a pitch for a ৳50,000 program. If the session has value, it should stand alone.

No-refund policies on high-ticket items. If you charge premium prices, offer a way out. Confidence in your service means not fearing refunds.

Targeting desperate people. There’s a difference between helping someone who’s struggling and exploiting their desperation. If your marketing preys on fear, you’re selling your soul.

    The Alternative I Chose

Full transparency: I don’t do 1-on-1 coaching. I wrote about why here.

Instead, I create products (ebooks, courses) that deliver coaching-like value at scale. A ৳497 ebook that helps 1,000 people creates more total impact than 1,000 hours of coaching calls — and doesn’t burn me out.

But that’s my choice based on my goals. If coaching energizes you and you’ve priced it honestly, it can be a legitimate, ethical business.

    The Bottom Line

    Price coaching so that:

    • You feel fairly compensated (not resentful)
    • The client gets transformative value (not just information)
    • You can say the price out loud without flinching
    • The relationship is win-win, not extraction

Coaching isn’t inherently exploitative. Bad pricing and bad intentions make it so. Price with integrity, deliver with excellence, and you’ll build something sustainable.
